[review] AVALON BY MINDEE ARNETT

Book: Avalon
Series: (Avalon #1)
Author: Mindee Arnett
Rating:

Of the various star systems that make up the Confederation, most lie thousands of light-years from First Earth-and out here, no one is free. The agencies that govern the Confederation are as corrupt as the crime bosses who patrol it, and power is held by anyone with enough greed and ruthlessness to claim it. That power is derived from one thing: metatech, the devices that allow people to travel great distances faster than the speed of light.
Jeth Seagrave and his crew of teenage mercenaries have survived in this world by stealing unsecured metatech, and they're damn good at it. Jeth doesn't care about the politics or the law; all he cares about is earning enough money to buy back his parents' ship, Avalon, from his crime-boss employer and getting himself and his sister, Lizzie, the heck out of Dodge. But when Jeth finds himself in possession of information that both the crime bosses and the government are willing to kill for, he is going to have to ask himself how far he'll go to get the freedom he's wanted for so long.

 I expected more.
And its not as bad as you think it would be (according to my review) but I'm way more critical because, like I said, I expected more!

I mean it had such a powerful start, it starts with a BANG – they steal ship, they are on the run criminals, there is shooting in space, they fly through metaspace (whatever that is), hack computers, skim they way thought, lie, cheat, kiss… all fun, fun, fun…
But then something happens half way thought the book that just slap my pink excited glasses right off my face and I just couldn't put them beck on no matter how hard I tried. And I did, I so did wanted to like this book. I so, so did!

The MC – Jet is a boy that got in bad crowd not by his liking and its trying to get out of it ever seance. He is a good MC, tough, confident, strong, handsome. I loved him. And he is consistent through the whole book. His crew is also great. There is his sister – the computer hacker, Celeste – the ship pilot, Shady – big guy who likes explosives, Flin – the skinny guy who eats two much and his uncle the ship’s Doctor. I loved every one of them.
And then comes one secondary character and does one rush decision that ruins everything for the characters that I loved – everything – think the direst thoughts and that’s what happened to them. And then the author tells me that I should like that character and forgive it because it tried to help a little and its excuses were this and were that and they were feeling so and so… NO!!!

I hated that character no mater what broth it to make that decisions, this whole book was a consequence of that one stupid decision and it didn’t work for me. I couldn't make good enough excuse to forgive. I'm sorry im not that big of a person!

…Im rambling….

The thing is: I did enjoyed this book, it was fun to read, the setting was unconventional, and the Bermuda triangle like space had creepy factor 100! But the story was predictable, and that one character – agh – that one character was unforgivable!
So yes, ill read the next one (because in spite of my rent I DID enjoyed this) and hope for the love of all things holly that the character would redeem it self or DIE trying.
